Chargers lost at IVC 1-0

Irvine, CA - The Chargers' struggle continue as they fell into the hands of Irvine Valley on Friday afternoon. Cypress dropped to 5-6-4 and 2-5-1 in conference.  The Chargers struggled offensively scoring only one goal in the last three games. GK Tony Roman had two saves on the day.

Chargers tied Coast 1-1

Gustafson scored first
goal of season.

Costa Mesa, CA - Brock Gustafson found the net three minutes into the game to put the Chargers (5-5-4, 2-4-1) on top 1-0. Tony Roman played superb in the Goal making nine saves and the Chargers were on the promise of a road victory. However in the 73rd minute, OCC's Jake Little sent a shot that deflected off the post to allow the Pirates (6-4-3, 3-2-2) to get on the board 1-1 and to be the eventual final score.

The Chargers are traveling to Irvine Valley on Friday to play the Lasers which they had beaten 3-0 at Ray Haas Field on September 25.

Chargers unable to overcome Rustlers

Cypress, CA -  Golden West has a 9-1 (6-0 in conference) record for a good reason, it is a fast and disciplined team. The Chargers (5-5-3, 2-4) struggled all afternoon in breaking through the Rustlers' defense before they lost 2-0. The Chargers are still looking for a solution in replacing the missing holes due to injuries.  GWC's defense covered the Chargers offensive weapons Milan Engholm and Pedro Sanchez well, unable them to get through the middle.

Brandon Luna (Servite) was added to the roster last week and started in the second half and made a good contribution.\

Chargers needed a win desparately, beat Santiago 2-1

Orange, CA - The Chargers ran out of option with injuries, so coach Ed Kephart was forced to make adjustments. Josh Cocis was called to play goalkeeper and responded with 5 saves and 1 goal allowed. More importantly the Chargers came away with a much needed win to build back some early season momentum. The Spain Connection of Luis Garcia and Pedro Santos each contributed a goal enough for Cypress (5-4-3, 2-3) to claim its 2nd conference victory over Santiago Canyon. The Hawks dropped to 1-6-1, 0-4 and still in search of its first conference victory.

Chargers still struggle with injuries

Norco, CA - The Chargers still struggled with the injuries, losing to Norco 2-1 to drop their records to 4-4-3, 1-3. The loss was an improvement from the previous loss to Fullerton 4-1. Cypress is still looking for a formula to overcome some of the injuries to the key players that it is facing.

The Chargers have to travel to Santiago Canyon on October 9th before returning home to host Golden West on October 12.

Cypress, CA - The injuries from the Santa Ana game haunted the Chargers. Going against a physical Fullerton team, Cypress was not able to break through. Down 3-0, Danny Solis found the net at the 73rd minute. The momentum appeared to be building but the Chargers continued to miss on opportunities. Sophomore Brett Mackay came back from his ankle injury and contributed substantially. Keeper Tony Roman had 12 saves.

Chargers face with four major injuries and loses at Santa Ana 2-0

in a 2-0 loss to Santa Ana

Santa Ana, CA - The Charger Men's Soccer team is still looking for the formula on how to beat Santa Ana in its backyard. On odd years at Santa Ana, the Chargers find a way to tie the Dons: 2-2 in 2011, 0-0 in 2009 and 1-1 in 2007.  Last season, the Chargers had led twice only to see Santa Ana stormed back in the 80-minute mark to score on rebound to tie the game.  This time the Dons ensure that they preserve a victory. Why not, it is an even year after all. The Dons lead 2-0 at the half which eventually becomes the final score. The Chargers have opportunities but unable to cash them in.

Losing the game to Santa Ana is bad enough, but the Chargers face worse things today when Sergio Balbuena breaks his leg and likely out for the season. Chris Berkley has potential broken ribs. Lasse horn has a concussion. Brock Gustafson injures his ankle. All key players and contributors to the success of the team thus far. 

Coach Ed Kephart is left with puzzles which he has to find a quick solution before the team host Fullerton on October 2.
